Studio & Location Shoot FAQ’s

How Long Will it Take?

A usual photo shoot will take around 2 hours.

What Should I/We Wear?

It is best to keep clothing simple, avoiding logos or busy patterns. I always suggest layers/textures. In group photos, colour coordinating is always more pleasing to the eye. Wear clothes that represent you and who you are. Feel free to bring a change of clothing.

We do recommend that to personalise your shoot that you bring your own clothing and accessories also. You may also want to consider props such as musical instruments, hats and sporting gear. We recommend you pack a bag full of anything you think is a remote possibility and we will work with you on the day to create your images. We LOVE to be creative and welcome your ideas and suggestions.

Some suggestions:

  • Ladies: evening dresses, lingerie, casual jeans and tops, bathers, anything with unusual textures, hats, jackets, boyfriend/ partners sport or work uniform, hair pieces, false eyelashes, teddy bears, dressup outfits, musical instruments, jewellery, shoes, accessories or anything you love or feel good in.
  • Gents: uniforms, suits ties, jeans, tshirts, underwear, sunglasses, hats, jackets, sports props, sport or gym wear.

What Should We Bring?

For family and/or children photo sessions: outfit changes, a drink, favourite toy, special stuffed animal. Please make sure your little one has been fed and had a nap before the photo session for a more comfortable and positive experience.

For a newborn/baby shoots, please bring any toys, bubbles balloons or anything you want to be in your photos.  We do have a variety of outfits for babies.  Take a look at our gallery to see some of the outfits we have.

Where Are The Photos Taken?

That depends on where you want them.  You can choose to book in to our studio, which is in Fazeley, Tamworth or have a location shoot in an area of your choice.  This could be a field, park, woods or somewhere which is special to your family.  If you don’t know of anywhere, I can advise on places.

Do You Do Portfolios?

If you are wanting to start or add to a model, singer, musician, dancer or actor/actress portfolio, then we can add prints in to your package.  Please state this when you book as you may want to book longer than a 2 hour shoot, depending on your requirements.  Please bring any outfits or props that you may want in your photos.  We can use a variety of backgrounds, different lighting to create different effects and take shots that will show off your versatility.  We recommend when choosing your images that you make sure you select a head shot, a 3/4 body shot, a full length shot plus a variety of outfits, looks, poses and expressions.

How Soon Will I See The Photos?

It usually takes around 2 weeks for me to edit your photos and put them on a disk for you.  You can either collect them from us or we can post them out to you.  I will include a price list for canvases and prints, should you want to use us to print.

Why Should I Print My Photos With You?

I use Brian at our Fazeley studios to print all my canvases and prints.  He used the best equipment and quality resources.  We have examples of canvases at the studio, and there you will see that the quality of the canvas material is excellent.  Not only that, but Brian checks that everything has printed to your liking, as sometimes colours can come out differently.  We can also put together a montage of photos on one canvas.

How Soon Will My Canvas/Prints Be Ready?

Good quality takes time, so please allow up to 5 weeks from placing your order with us.  It will definitely be worth the wait :)!

Black & White or Colour?

It’s totally up to you.  Some people prefer black and white, some colour and some a mix!  I will edit the photos which I think will look good in black and white and give you both the black and white and colour photos on the disk.  If there’s one of your pictures you wanted in black and white or sepia that I haven’t edited in that way, please do not hesitate to ask me.

What Can I Do With The Digital Photos?

As the photographer, I have the copyright of the photos. This means I am allowed to publish them on my blog, professional facebook and website portfolio. However, these are personal photos of your family and I will discuss this with you beforehand if there are certain photos you just don’t want published online.
Once you have purchased them, you are free to print them off using your own printer or order prints/canvases etc from us and publish them on your facebook/twitter/blogs. If you do publish them online, it would be lovely to have a little mention or link to my website!

Is The Photo Shoot For Everyone?

Sometimes adults can be a little anxious, as they know their children will look beautiful but they’re not so sure how photogenic they are themselves. Please don’t worry.  We will spend plenty of time helping you to relax and get used to being in front of the lens. You’re special to your family, and they want you to be in the picture, too.  I can guarantee you’ll enjoy the session just as much as the kids!

Location Shoots – What If It Rains?

If the sky isn’t bright blue and it turns out to be overcast, don’t worry.  We can always rearrange for a later date. However, those conditions are better than perfect sunshine: bright light can look harsh and make people squint, and it means that shadows (and wrinkles) look deeper. If it rains, we’ll do as much of the shoot as possible indoors, and then make a judgment on whether to schedule another location shoot at a later date.

How/When Do I Pay You?

I do ask for a deposit to hold the date and time of the studio.  This is 50% of the price for your photo shoot.
I ask that you pay me either by cash or cheque on the day of the shoot, or by Bank Transfer one week prior to the shoot.

Can I Buy A Voucher?

Yes!  This is a lovely idea for a present for a friend or family member.  Contact us here to request the information needed to buy a voucher for a portrait session to be sent out to you.  Once your full payment has been cleared, we will post the voucher to you.

What If I Need To Cancel?

If you need to cancel your photoshoot for any reason, please let me know as soon as you possibly can.  As I have to book sessions at the studio, I would need one week’s notice to rearrange.  Our diary time is very precious and it can sometimes be difficult to get rebooked. We reserve the right to keep booking deposits if you are outside the terms and conditions of your booking.
